Finally Meeting!

Finally, the Lord made a way for some of our Christ’s Hope staff members to meet face to face!! In March 2022, these ladies were able to meet each other and bond as co-laborers for the Lord with Christ’s Hope. They were so grateful for time to get to know each other and bond. They hope to be able to meet again soon!

We ask you to pray for every one of these ladies. Pray that God would give them strength, wisdom, patience and grace. Pray that He would use each of them in amazing ways to bring Him glory! Pray especially for Evelyn as she begins her ministry in Tanzania where there has been no Country Team Leader for years and there is much work to do.

*Left to right Sthe (HR from e-Swatini), Evelyn (new Country Team Leader in Tanzania), Rachel Namale (Country Team Leader in Uganda) and Rachel O. (Country Team leader in Kenya).

Why is Christ’s Hope Different?

There are many different organizations similar to Christ’s Hope… So, what makes Christ’s Hope different?

There are five main features that makes the Christ’s Hope program unique.

We strive to keep children with their families (whether that is a parent, aunt, uncle, or grandparent) and in their communities. We do this so that each child will be with a loved one and will be able to take what they learn at their CarePoint and spread it to those around them.

We focus on the child/sponsor relationship. We do this via communications and the opportunity to visit your sponsor child!

Your sponsor child is given much more personalized care due to the more intimate child to caregiver ratio (12 to 1). Our caregivers check in on their group of children very regularly and have a continuous growing relationship with the child. Caregivers even do child home visits to know exactly what each individual child’s family and home life look like and what their biggest needs are.

Just like the special relationship a sponsor has with their sponsor child, entire churches can have that same special bond with a whole CarePoint of children being sponsored by your church! We don’t only partner with individuals, but churches to open up and fill up sponsorships for individual CarePoints! We are very thankful for our church partners!

We focus on the AIDS Affected, orphaned, or vulnerable children. Many organizations solely focus on children that are orphaned. At Christ’s Hope, we hope to help children in all vulnerable states.

Here at Christ’s Hope, we try to do things as God and as the Bible would instruct us to do. We long to help the widow and the orphan and those in need. But we can’t do it alone… We need your help!

Our History

Where It Started (2003)

In a small Namibian town, Jos and Sylvia Holtzhausen felt called to confront the troubling reality of HIV and AIDS they were witnessing first hand and the children left behind in its wake. They felt the call to launch a ministry that focused on HIV and AIDS affected children and families. In answer to that call, they established Christ’s Hope International which cared for AIDS-orphaned children through orphanages.

Orphanages Close (2005)

Berdian and Juliet Beukes became “House Parents” in one of the Christ’s Hope children’s homes in Namibia for 3 years. As they realized most of the children had a family member alive to take care of them, they closed down the orphanages and told the family members, “If you can look after this child at night, make sure they are safe, the child can come here to the Ministry CarePoint where we’ll help with school work, give them meals, and teach them about Jesus.”

Passing the Torch (2019)

After 15 years of dedicated service to the Lord and His mission, Jos Holtzhausen has stepped down from his position as International Team Leader of Christ’s Hope. The title and duties of International Director have been appointed to David Kase, previously US Director. Norm Prange is the U.S. Director of Finance and Operations and Joe Marton Directs the Fund Development team.

Christ’s Hope International Today!

What IS a Ministry CarePoint?

If you stay up to date on our blog posts and emails then you likely hear the term, “Ministry CarePoint” used often… but what exactly IS a Ministry CarePoint?

A Ministry CarePoint is a strategically located center within a community that has a high AIDS infection rate. Our Ministry CarePoints provide a place where sponsored children can receive the material and spiritual care they need. In doing so, this ensures that orphaned and vulnerable children can live with an extended family member or in a foster family.

A Ministry CarePoint is usually made up of a large building with many small rooms where the children can be taught. Ministry CarePoints also have a small kitchen and an area for the children to eat. Sponsored children are able to go to the Ministry CarePoint three times a week and benefit from these things.

Within the Ministry CarePoint are Care Givers and there are roughly two Care Givers for each class. They teach the children Bible lessons, look after the kids while they are at the Ministry CarePoint and even make sure that they are doing well at home. They give emotional support, counseling, and are really able to create a bond with each child.

There are many things that go on within each Ministry CarePoint:

Educational:

Age-appropriate schooling

Tutoring and remedial assistance

Access to educational tools and vocational training

Teacher’s assessments and progress evaluations

Physical:

Safe family environment

Nutritious meals

Ongoing medical evaluations

HIV testing and monitoring

Hygiene standards education

AIDS awareness training

Home evaluation monitoring

Spiritual:

Evangelism and discipleship

Bible study and prayer

Personalized counseling

Genesis design sexual purity training and instructions

Emotional:

Counseling and mentoring

Ministry CarePoint Outcomes:

Clean Water Sustains Life

David and Becky Kase recently went on a trip to Africa to visit many of Christ’s Hope’s CarePoints. Becky shared many stories from their trip, but these were a few of her sweetest memories from their time there.

“Water. When we are in this hot and dry land, we drink lots of it. In Africa we become more aware that clean water sustains life. Typhoid is a big problem here and we are hoping to get our children immunized against it once the new vaccine is made available.

We came up with a game using what the care points had on hand and the kids loved it. Many of them have the responsibility of hauling water to their homes as few of our children have running water. Here we see this child does have “running water”!

She continued to share the following story as well…

“In Uganda we had the most time to really get to know staff and some of the kiddos. They made this craft and we discussed how they are each made uniquely and one of a kind. We sang a song that they sing so well… ’I am fearfully and wonderfully made…’”

We hope that you are all just as encouraged by these stories as we are! We love to see and hear the things that are going on in Africa and within our CarePoints firsthand and we love to share the work that God is doing there with you. Please continue to pray for the children, their families, their communities, and our staff!

Elizabeth’s Story

A couple of years ago Elizabeth’s husband was very sick and Christ’s Hope knew of his condition and needs. The Care and Compassion team visited him regularly and by God’s grace he is now healthy and doing well. In the meantime, however, Christ’s Hope considered Elizabeth’s children, Freddy and Tim, to be vulnerable because of her husband’s inability to work and the possibility that they may become orphans. The boys were welcomed into the local CarePoint.

Soon after, there was a group from the U.S. who went on a Mission Trip to Africa to lead a Family Camp at the same local CarePoint that Elizabeth’s sons attended. There were over 650 people who came to learn about the Lord, have meals and also have fun. There were classes for all of the children in the community and there was also a class for all of the parents so Elizabeth decided to attend. The class for the parents was on grief, since most of them had faced the loss of one, if not many children and loved ones. These classes were to help teach that God is the only one who can comfort us, keep us and give us lasting hope for the future.

After class one day at the Family Camp, Elizabeth approached one of the leaders that came from the Mission Trip. She confessed a history of sin and was so burdened about her past and how no matter how hard she tried she was unable to stop sinning. She knew she needed to call upon the Lord Jesus Christ as her Savior and that He was her only hope in the battle against sins past, present and future. Elizabeth asked for the leader’s help and so they cried out to the Lord in confession and repentance and they begged Him to save her! Elizabeth cried tears of joy and was finally able to rejoice! Elizabeth was saved that day!

Soon after, Elizabeth and her husband (the one who was helped by Care and Compassion) decided to sell some of their land to Christ’s Hope which was going to provide a place for a large Community Center. This is now a place where 250 sponsored children can go to learn about the Gospel, eat nutritious meals and socialize with other local children! God used Elizabeth and her story in amazing ways so soon after He had saved her.

God used Elizabeth’s husband’s sickness for good so that her sons, Freddy and Tim, would be welcomed into a CarePoint. He then used that same CarePoint to bring in the Family Camp which would help show Elizabeth her sin, cause her to repent and ultimately change her life and make her a new creation. Lastly, he used Elizabeth and her husband to make a place for 250 children to go and be fed both physically and spiritually. He is faithful and He cares about all of the big and little details.

*For their safety and privacy, their names have been changed.
