July Update

A quick update on Christ’s Hope International this month and a huge thank you for you prayers and support!

Saburi’s Story

Last month I introduced you to Saburi Boyer, this month I would like to tell you a little bit more about the steps that led to his involvement with Christ’s Hope.

Saburi became a Christian during the hottest summer on record in La Grange, Wyoming at the Frontier School of the Bible. God saved him from a life of rebellion and anger, and into a joyful relationship with Him, and this was just the tipping point.

As an adult, Saburi became a workaholic. He missed countless family birthdays and spending time with friends. On a rare vacation day in sunny Florida, Saburi dove into shallow water, hitting his head on the ocean floor below; he was unconscious, his lungs filled with water, and he broke his neck, but by God’s grace he survived. The hard times were only beginning for Saburi, though. Soon after he lost his grandfather, along with a close friend, his wife decided to divorce him, his sister fell deathly ill, and he had a personal battle with leukemia.

All of these difficulties forced Saburi to reevaluate his life and slow down. “It all dawned on me in that moment. I wanted to live for God and live for others. I wanted my life to count.”

After Saburi’s near-death experience from leukemia, his interest in going to Africa was kindled. Since going to Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania in 2017, he has never looked back. “The model works, it is Christ-centered and family-centric. And, don’t we all need a family?”

You are Making a Difference

The children in this picture have been a part of the Manyatta and Nyalenda Ministry CarePoints in Kenya since they were in kindergarten. Today they are all in junior high, following the Lord, growing physically, and academically. Your partnership is helping these children break the cycle, and giving them a future rooted in hope.

Art for Hope
We are excited to announce some more details about our Art for Hope event on September 29th in Sacramento, California, and available on the web! We have two exquisite Carrara marble statues from Michelangelo’s Pieta, as well as a Boogaali Bamboo Bike exactly like the ones we used for the Ride For Hope Lake Victoria to auction off. Take it from Mr. Simon

“I now understand the incredible impact that Christ’s Hope has had on our community here in the DR Congo. Prior to their work here, many of the children who now attend the Christ’s Hope CarePoints were looked down on in the community and excluded from the other children because of their unhygienic behaviors and only being able to communicate in their tribal tongue, rather than being able to speak Congo’s official language.

Christ’s Hope, instead of disregarding these children, taught them and welcomed them into their CarePoints where they now have learned how to communicate properly and about personal hygiene. Many of the children have even shared these lessons with their families!

They have grown into hardworking students who take pride in their work and their bodies, that they’ve learned were made in the image of Christ. They now feel confident around the other children who they were once separated from.
Through your partnership with Christ’s Hope, you have given these children the courage to move forward in their lives and I am truly thankful for the work you’ve done.”
Peace and Blessings,

COVID-19 Update

As we face the Coronavirus pandemic let us, as His people, turn to Him and seek Him. It is a time to share His promises with those we serve and those we encounter.

Our friends at Young Life are praying through Psalm 91 for 91 days. We encourage you to join with our brothers and sisters and likewise commit to praying through Psalm 91 for the next 91 days. Let us lift our voices to our “refuge and fortress” and trust in Him.

The Coronavirus issue has escalated to a global pandemic and some countries we serve in are facing full shut down of operations. We are being proactive in minimizing the risk of spread and exposure to the virus as well as taking steps to prepare for quarantine and the impact this will have on the children in our care, their families, and our staff. It’s important to remember that many of the children and families we serve already have compromised immune systems and this virus could be very dangerous to them.

Therefore, we are instituting the following steps to protect our staff and those we serve:

  1. CarePoints will be shut down if –
    • Government closes down schools
    • Any staff or children are diagnosed with the COVID-19 virus
    • Government authorities require shut down
  2. Preparations are being made for emergency provisions for our children and their families, as well as for staff in the event we have to close the CarePoints
  3. Reinforcing instructions and training for our children, their families, and our staff on the importance of frequent hand washing with soap and water as well as not touching your face with dirty hands
  4. Joining the prayer movement for protection, healing and against the spread of  the COVID-19 virus
We pray the Lord’s protection over our staff, children, and their families. Lord use this situation to draw many people to yourself!

Peer Pressure

Meet Eliza –
“I cannot stop saying thank you for the difference you have made in my life!”

A teenage girl needs a dad. Eliza felt “less than” because she had no father and her mother struggled to provide the basics for her and her two siblings. Eliza watched the other kids walk to school in their nice, clean uniforms while she played in the dust. When she turned ten, she was welcomed into a Ministry CarePoint in Namibia. Eliza remembers feeling proud to be sitting next to her peers in a classroom with a new uniform and a “quality school bag”. School was hard at first, she was behind and was a slow learner. At the CarePoint, she was taught to work hard and received tutoring from her CareGivers, helping her to not only catch up in school, but to excel in school.

Once she felt insecure, but as she was cared for and taught the good news of Jesus, the gap of fatherlessness in her life was filled. Because of this she is now a confident influencer to her peers, and her teachers say that her respect and good behavior makes a positive impact on all her friends. As a 16-year-old, she is grateful and says “I cannot stop saying thank you for the difference you have made in my life!”

THANK YOU for making a difference in Eliza’s life!

Peace and Blessings,

Make a difference in a child’s life, like Rose!

When Rose was young, she lost both her mother and father to AIDS. As orphans, Rose and her younger sistermoved in with their grandmother. While their grandmother loved them very much, she could barely afford to takecare of herself, let alone two children. That’s where Christ’s Hope stepped in.

Seven years ago,

Rose joined the Christ’s Hope program inKenya. She was able to start going to schooland receiving an education thanks to theschool fees, uniforms, and other suppliesbeing provided by Christ’s Hope. At theMinistry CarePoint, Rose comes multipletimes a week where she gets the care andsupport she needs such as hot, nutritiousmeals, tutoring, and discipling. Not tomention she is able to enjoy being a kid byplaying games and making new friends.

Because Rose’s critical needs were being taken care of by Christ’sHope, her grandmother was able to allow Rose and her sister tocontinue living with her rather than going to an orphanage.

We see the lives of Rose and her family being restored as theyexperience the love of Christ. Rose is now growing up healthy, educated, and confident as she learns that she is valued in thekingdom of Heaven. She has now known the Word of God deeplyand is living a live that is upright before God

Make a difference in a child’s life, like Rose,by giving this Christmas season. Your donation will help morechildren receive the care, support, and love they need to break the cycle of HIV and AIDS, poverty, and spiritualbrokenness.

This year, our goal is to raise $300,000 for the children. Will you help us reach ourgoal and go into the new year in a wonderful position to be able to better serve and care for over 1,500 valuablechildren, and many more in 2020?

Thank you for your partnership that continues to make a difference in the lives of many children all over Sub-SaharanAfrica. You can give a gift this Christmas season by returning the included donation card or by donating online at christshope.org/donate.

Peace and blessings,

David Kase

International Director

September Ministry Update

A quick update on Christ’s Hope International this month and a huge thank you for your prayers and support!

It was a Tuesday…

when Carol’s life changed. Grief, depression, and malnourishment plagued Carol’s childhood for years after she lost both of her parents.

There was no money for Carol to go to school, and physically she was so weak that she would often faint. To many, her situation seemed hopeless, but God’s plan for Carol was full of hope.

Your generous gifts have made is possible for Carol to be a part of the Christ’s Hope International Nyahera Ministry CarePoint in Kisumu, Kenya. By God’s grace the hope-less became hopeful! Today, Carol lives with her uncle, attends school, and receives the physical care that she needs to thrive. A smile has now replaced the grief and depression that Carol wrestled with for years. And, through the Gospel and Genesis Design lessons, Carol is learning and seeing her value in light of her Creator!

Thank You for Your Support

On September 21st, our friends, sponsors, and partners came together to cheer on Saburi Boyer who won both the Audience and Judges’ Choice awards for Christ’s Hope at Traverse City’s SwingShift and the Stars event! Over $21,000 was raised that night for AIDS-affected, orphaned, and vulnerable children in Africa.

On November 16th we will be participating in a lip-sync battle, and we’d be thrilled to have you come! For tickets and more information click below to join us!

A New Chapter

[DISPLAY_ULTIMATE_SOCIAL_ICONS]

After 15 years of dedicated service to the Lord and His Mission,  Jos Holtzhausen has stepped down from his position as International Team Leader of Christ’s Hope International.

Jos and his wife Sylvia founded Christ’s Hope in 2003 after witnessing the plight of AIDS-affected, orphaned children in Africa during their tenure with Youth for Christ in a small town in Namibia; a project that quickly expanded to seven countries in Sub-Saharan Africa. As a critical element to the program, Sylvia wrote the Genesis Design curriculum, a lesson plan intending to teach youth about God’s design for manhood and womanhood, marriage, sexuality, and AIDS education.

Jos will continue to serve with Christ’s Hope in discipleship training and speak on behalf of the organization. Sylvia will continue to develop the Genesis Design curriculum.

We praise God for their dedication to the calling He has given them and eagerly anticipate what He has in store for the future.

The title and duties of International Director have been appointed to David Kase, previously US Director, effective on January 1st, 2019. On the same date the position of African Team Leader was established and appointed to Glenn Vantieghem, team leader for the DR Congo, who will be responsible for overseeing ministry in Africa.

Leah and Grace

Leah and Grace’s Story

[DISPLAY_ULTIMATE_SOCIAL_ICONS]

Leah sponsors Grace through our church partner, New Life Church in Chicago. This summer Leah was able to meet Grace in Uganda. When Leah arrived at the Ministry CarePoint she was warned that Grace would be shy at first. As Leah walked into Grace’s classroom, she writes, “I spotted Grace and then she came around the table with flowers and a card for me; she hugged me right away and was trying to hide the emotion on her face. It is a moment I will never forget.” Leah spent the rest of the day with Grace, visited her home, and met her Grandma. Leah also learned more of Grace’s story; she only has two remaining relatives, and both of her parents have passed away. “But it was such a testament to God’s hand in everything and His divine timing as I started sponsoring her [Grace] within weeks of her dad’s passing.” For Leah, meeting Grace was such an amazing experience, “I had heard stories of people meeting their sponsor child, but I never imagined how powerful it really is. It left me in awe, seeing how God used one act of obedience to impact the life of a child and her grandmother all for the glory of God.”

SwingShift and the Stars

Christ’s Hope and Saburi Boyer are back at it on November 16th for one more SwingShift and the Stars show!
