Our “behind the picture” blog posts are a way that we can share more about the kids within Christ’s Hope and a little background on their history and life. We hope that through these blog posts you will be better equipped to pray for our children’s personal struggles and that one of their stories will touch you and ultimately lead to sponsorship and a child’s life being transformed!
A Bit About Don!
This is Don! Don is a 9 year old boy who lives in Nairobi, Kenya. He lives with his mother and two siblings after the death of his father. After Don’s father passed away, Don and his family were chased away from their home by his uncle because his mother wouldn’t marry him. The uncle took everything from Don and his family including the family business so his mother has been doing odd jobs for money.
Don loves playing football, ugali (an African porridge), and his best friend is David. His favorite Bible verse is Psalms 23:1 and he loves the story of Noah. He helps around the house by washing dishes and fetching water. Lastly, he is very happy and chatty in his CarePoint!
A Bit About Kenya!
Kenya is located in East Africa and is a very diverse place. It touches the Indian Ocean and is mostly desert, but it is also very mountainous.
Beryl lives in Kisumu, Kenya which is the third largest city in Kenya. The temperature is anywhere from the low 60s to high 80s and they experience both a dry and a wet season. The homes in Kisumu, Kenya are usually made of mud and/or corrugated metal sheets and the terrain is typically very rocky and dry. The children within our CarePoints in Kenya rarely have electricity or running water in their home, so they have lots of long walks to the nearest well, or other water source, and in any type of weather.
How to Pray for Don!
- Please pray for Don and his family members. Pray for them as they have gone through such hardship and try to recover from it.
- Pray that God would help Don excel in his studies and that he would continue to learn and grow in school.
- Pray that God would provide a good job for Don’s mother. Pray that He would provide exactly what she needs and that he would provide enough money for their family.
- Lastly, pray that Beryl would be sponsored and that she would be given hope through sponsorship. Pray that God would bring the perfect sponsor for Beryl and that they would have an amazing and lasting relationship. Most importantly, please pray that all of this would ultimately lead her to Christ.
