A Bit About Austin!
Austin is a 10-year-old boy from Nairobi, Kenya, who lives with his grandmother and siblings. After his mother passed away and with his father absent, his older brother became the sole provider for the family, dropping out of 6th grade to work. They live in a small steel house with only one chair and one bed for all of them. Often, they struggle to meet their basic needs.
Austin has been waiting for a sponsor for quite some time now. While waiting, he helps out around the house by fetching water and playing football. He loves the story of Jesus because He died on the cross for our sins and his favorite verse is Psalm 23:1.
Austin enjoys many things like; learning, eating rice, and he aspires to become a businessman to help provide for his family.

A Bit About Nairobi, Kenya!
Kenya is located in East Africa and is a very diverse place. It touches the Indian Ocean and is mostly desert and mountainous.
Austin lives in Nairobi, the capital and largest city of Kenya. The temperature ranges from the low 50s to the high 80s, with both a dry season and two wet seasons. Many of the children in our Mathare CarePoints reside in the Nairobi slums, which are among the largest in the world, housing 2.5 million people. This area is marked by extreme poverty. Homes in the slums are typically built from corrugated metal sheets, often consisting of just one room, with no access to electricity or running water.
Children in the slums have limited access to quality education, with many dropping out to support their families, like Austin’s brother. In addition, urbanization has led to overcrowding and inadequate infrastructure, making it difficult for residents to access essential services like healthcare, sanitation, and schools. Lastly, there are often environmental challenges, including pollution and frequent flooding during the wet seasons, further worsen the living conditions.
How to Pray for Austin!
- Please pray for the health and safety of Austin and his grandmother and siblings.
- Pray that they would both know and love God.
- Pray that God would be with Austin’s brother as he provides for the family and that the family will be able to afford their daily basic needs.
- Pray that Austin will do well at school and that God will lead him in every aspect of his life.
- Lastly, please pray that Austin will be sponsored and that he will be given hope through sponsorship. Pray that God would bring the right sponsor for him and that they would have a strong and lasting relationship. Most importantly, please pray that all of this will ultimately lead him to Christ.
