Mission Trips
Join us on a Christ’s Hope mission trip to Africa! Short-term mission trips with Christ’s Hope are designed to equip believers while in the process of ministry. Our desire is for individuals to experience the dynamics of the Body of Christ, to expand their vision of the world and to participate in fruitful ministry!
Would you join us?
Things to Keep in Mind While in Africa
– Women often take a subservient role in tribal structures to men
– Direct eye contact between a woman and a man is considered by the man to be an invitation
– It is difficult for African men to apologize – apologizing is perceived to be loss of face or status
– Communication, particularly internet, can be difficult due to availability
– Power availability is limited in some countries at some times – most African countries use DC for electrical appliances (hair dryers, PC’s, etc.). Make sure to get an adapter rated for South Africa
– African’s are Relationship Based which means how one interacts with another is more important than what they are interacting about!
– Society is concerned about feelings first, tasks/task completion second
– Group Oriented Culture – one’s Identity is tied to the group (family, tribe, etc.)
– Africans are not as oriented to the clock as America is (think “Island Time” or “Africa Time”)
– Events themselves more important than time, people are spontaneous and flexible in their approach to life and experiencing the moment more important than saving time
– It is better to overdress than underdress
– Honor people with which you deal – being too casual is insulting
– Use manners
– Respect the rules
– Give attention to appropriate greetings
