Seventeen climbers from across the world—representing the United States, Belgium, Canada, France, and the Netherlands—came together in February for an incredible journey up Mount Kilimanjaro. But this climb was about more than just reaching Africa’s highest peak; it was a mission to raise funds for Christ’s Hope’s BaseCamp Project, expanding care for orphaned and vulnerable children in Kinshasa, DRC.
Over the course of seven long days, the team faced both physical and mental challenges. From the steep inclines to the thin air at nearly 19,000 feet, every step demanded perseverance and trust in God’s strength. As one climber shared, “Little can compare to the joy of making it to the top—unlike anything I have experienced. God’s power and majesty were so present on the mountaintop.”
Despite the hardships—altitude sickness, exhaustion, and freezing temperatures—the entire team successfully reached the summit. A sense of unity and purpose fueled their climb, knowing that their efforts were directly supporting children in need. Through this initiative, an incredible $90,000 was raised toward the $100,000 goal, bringing the BaseCamp Project one step closer to reality. Once completed, this project will increase capacity from 300 children to 1,000, ensuring more children receive holistic care and education.
The impact of this journey extended beyond the mountain. One climber, deeply moved after visiting a Christ’s Hope care point, was initially hesitant about engaging with the children but found his heart transformed. Witnessing the organization’s work firsthand left him in tears and inspired him to sponsor three children in Uganda and South Africa. His experience is a testament to how God can use moments of challenge and discomfort to open hearts in unexpected ways.
Looking ahead, there is still work to be done. The remaining funds needed for the BaseCamp Project are within reach, and the dedication of these climbers has set a powerful example of what is possible when faith and action come together.
