Meet Tengetile!
She lives in a tent with her mother and sister after their home was destroyed by severe rainfall. The tent was donated; otherwise, they would be homeless. They fetch water from a local river and have limited access to electricity, making daily life incredibly challenging. Tengetile’s mother is currently unemployed and is generally the family’s sole provider. Meeting even their most basic daily needs is a continual struggle.
Despite these difficulties, Tengetile is a kind and helpful girl. She helps around the house by washing dishes and tidying their home. She loves spending time with her friends, learning, going to school, playing tennis, and singing. She does very well in school and actively participates in class.
Tengetile dreams of becoming a doctor one day because she wants to help people. But without consistent support, access to education and the resources she needs to grow and succeed remain out of reach.

While some urban areas are developing, rural communities face significant challenges such as poverty, food insecurity, and limited access to education and healthcare. Over half the population lives below the poverty line, and many families rely on subsistence farming to survive. With the world’s highest HIV rate, countless children have lost one or both parents, leaving them vulnerable to hardship. Life for children is often shaped by these challenges, making education, vocational skills, and community support crucial for their future.
